Manchester City secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over London City Lionesses in the Barclays Women’s Super League at Hayes Lane, with second-half goals from Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealing all three points for the visitors.
Ahead of kick-off, London City Lionesses’ summer signing Alexia Putellas brought her recently awarded third Ballon d’Or trophy to the stadium, where it was displayed for supporters to photograph.

London City Lionesses delivered a strong first-half performance, creating several opportunities but failing to convert their chances. Manchester City broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Shaw, who rounded goalkeeper Mary Earps before finishing from close range.

The hosts responded in the 72nd minute when Jana Fernández headed home from a corner to level the score. However, Manchester City regained their advantage just two minutes later, as Lauren Hemp converted Mary Fowler’s cross to secure the victory.
The result ended London City Lionesses’ nine-match unbeaten run, while Manchester City continued their unbeaten start to the season across all competitions.
